🔆MY KEY TAKE-AWAYS🔆
Cycling on Gran Canaria has taught me a few things that I would like to share with you.👇🏻
The Canary Islands are known as a popular cycling destination. You notice this in the driving behavior of the locals. They wait, give space and are clearly used to cyclists on the roads.🙏🏻
The Southern coastal towns; Maspalomas, Playa de Ingles, Arguineguin, Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogan are especially popular among cyclists because of their location in relation to the well-known climbs. There is also less rain and wind in the south.
In general the roads are good but there are also very bad roads. Whichever route you cycle, you will have to deal with this anyway. Be especially careful when descending on the bad roads.
The climbs here are long, very long. I thought this was fantastic, but be prepared for this and adjust your routes accordingly. Climbs over 40km are no exception here.😍
Along the way there are few opportunities to fill your water bottles or buy something to eat. So keep this in mind, take enough food and 750ml water bottles with you and always fill your water bottles if you have the opportunity.🚰
If you prefer not to bring your own bike, you can easily rent a bike on the island. freemotionbikecenter offers a suitable bicycle for every cyclist. In addition, they can help you with beautiful routes that you can cycle alone or with a guide.
If you are going to cycle a long route, leave early to avoid the heat of the day. Make sure you have lighting on the front and back of your bike. I leave the taillights flashing all day long so that traffic behind me can see me clearly.
I hope you find this information useful! If you have any questions or additions, go ahead!
Disclaimer: I cycled here in August This month is considered low season for cycling. In addition, it is a lot hotter during this period, which affects your rides.
